New Tides was born from a shared passion for making a real difference. Our team came together from different paths—each of us bringing unique experiences and a deep commitment to care. We saw a gap in the quality and consistency of support people were receiving, and we knew we could do better. That’s why we created New Tides: to provide care that is heartfelt, personal, and truly life-changing.

Jo was the inspiration behind New Tides. She was someone who had been lost in the system—seen only for her disability, not for the incredible person she was. She showed us firsthand how broken the system could be and how desperately people needed more than just basic care. They needed love, dignity, and people who truly believed in them. Jo’s journey pushed us to create a service that sees the person first, fights for their right to live a full and meaningful life, and never stops advocating for better support. Her legacy is woven into everything we do.

Then there’s Derina—our very first client. She wanted to live independently in her own home while still receiving the support she needed. Other providers couldn’t find a solution, but we did. We worked creatively to ensure that Derina had the life she wanted—because we believe that everyone deserves to live on their own terms, with the right support in place.

At New Tides, we don’t just work within the system—we challenge it when needed. We help several participants and their families free of charge, stepping in where traditional support falls short. Because to us, this is more than just a job—it’s a commitment to changing lives with love.

In Jo’s honour, we’ve expanded our mission beyond direct care. JoJo’s Buses was created to provide free transport to those in need, ensuring that people aren’t left behind simply because they can’t afford or access reliable transport. And now, we are excited to be adding our very first wheelchair-accessible vehicle to the fleet, allowing even more people to experience freedom and independence—just as Jo would have wanted.

But New Tides isn’t just about the people we support—it’s also about the people who make that support possible. We know that this work can be challenging, and we never take our team for granted. We do what we can to make sure they feel supported too, whether that’s through flexibility, a listening ear, or simply recognizing the importance of balance between work and home life. We are a team that looks out for one another, because when people feel valued and respected, they can do their best work.
